What makes someone my friend?

For me being a friend is simple.

If someone is coming towards me and giving me their attention in a warm, caring way.

If they are acknowledging what I am saying by checking out that they heard me right.

If they are asking me questions to get a better idea of what I mean.

If they are asking me how I feel.

If they then continue to do those 4 things.

Then they are being my friend.

Being my friend is a verb not a noun. So when they stop doing the 4 things, they are not being my friend.

See how long you can do those 4 things for in one go. If you can do it for more than a few seconds at a time, you are doing better than a lot of people. If you can do it for minutes at a time you are doing better than almost everyone.

With practice, it is not a problem to be someone’s friend for an hour or two at a time. Non-stop.
